Making sophisticated trading tools feel clear and manageable.

Voren lets retail traders build, backtest and export automated trading strategies without writing code. Strategies are assembled in a node-based builder, where each node handles a piece of logic, a condition, an input or an output.

Ahead of its public launch, the product gave traders a lot of control but was hard to follow. As a pre-revenue startup, Voren needed the redesign done well, within a defined budget and an eight-week timeline.

My role

I was the only designer on the project, working through Exalt Studio, and designed the entire redesign myself. That covered the Strategy Builder and the journey around it, from onboarding through backtests and optimisation to results, plus the design system behind the new interface in light and dark modes.

Key decisions

  1. Keep the logic on the canvas

Traders configure nodes, rules and inputs directly on the canvas rather than in separate settings screens. That way they can see how a change fits into the rest of the strategy while they’re making it, which matters when one condition affects everything downstream.

  2. Design the path from strategy to results

A strategy is only useful once it’s been tested, so I designed the builder, backtests, optimisation and results as one journey rather than separate tools. I focused on hierarchy and discoverability, so traders always know where they are and what to do next, from their first strategy to its results.

Outcome

The redesign covered the builder, testing tools and onboarding, supported by a design system for light and dark modes. I delivered it within the eight weeks, ahead of Voren’s public launch, and Voren’s engineers built it from the designs.
